Top 10 WordPress development companies in the USA
This guide lists ten US WordPress development companies and shows what we could check about each one on 1 November 2026: its Clutch rating and review count, team size and location, and its WordPress VIP partner status where Automattic's own pages show it. It is a comparison and not a ranking. PromotEdge International is a WordPress development company too, so we are not on the list.
In short
Judge a WordPress company on three things: whether it can show work like yours, who owns the code when you leave, and who looks after the site afterwards. The ten below cover enterprise publishers, online stores, small businesses and design-led builds.
Treat every figure as a starting point. Ratings, review counts and team sizes change, so each one carries the date it was read.
Why the choice of WordPress company matters
WordPress runs 39.5% of all websites, and 58.2% of the websites whose content management system is known, according to W3Techs on 1 November 2026. At that scale, calling yourself a WordPress specialist proves little.
The company you pick decides who owns your code, how many plugins run on your server, and whether the site can still be maintained once the first developers have moved on. A site assembled from other people's plugins gets harder to change every year. Our page on WordPress development explains what the work covers before you read a quote.
How the ten companies compare
Alphabetical, with figures from Clutch read on 1 November 2026: rating out of 5 and review count, team-size band, and the location Clutch lists. “WordPress VIP” is Automattic's enterprise partner program.
- Digital Silk: 4.9 (51 reviews). 50 to 249 people. Clutch lists New York, and the company's own site lists a Miami headquarters.
- Freshy: 4.9 (19 reviews). 50 to 249 people. Binghamton, New York.
- Fueled, including 10up: Fueled 4.9 (38 reviews), 250 to 999 people, New York. 10up has its own Clutch profile at 5.0 (1 review). Automattic lists 10up as a Premier WordPress VIP partner.
- Huemor: 4.8 (72 reviews). 10 to 49 people. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- Lounge Lizard: 4.8 (43 reviews). 50 to 249 people. New York.
- Multidots: 4.9 (34 reviews). 50 to 249 people. Austin, Texas. Automattic lists it as a Premier WordPress VIP partner.
- OuterBox: 5.0 (93 reviews). 250 to 999 people. Copley, Ohio.
- Reaktiv: 5.0 (8 reviews). 10 to 49 people. Temecula, California. Automattic lists it as a Premier WordPress VIP partner.
- WebDevStudios: 5.0 (1 review). 10 to 49 people. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- WebFX: 4.9 (454 reviews). 250 to 999 people. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
We read WordPress VIP status from Automattic's own partner pages for 10up, Multidots and Reaktiv only. We did not check the other seven, so absence here does not mean they are not partners. Check Automattic's directory yourself if the tier matters to you.
How we chose the ten
We kept the method simple, so you can repeat it and disagree with it.
- A US location on Clutch. Every company has a US office listed. This guide is for buyers who want a US-based team.
- WordPress work on its own pages. The company's website or its Automattic partner page says it builds on WordPress.
- Review depth. A rating from one client says little, so we show the review count next to every score.
- A spread of buyers. The team bands run from 10 to 49 people up to 250 to 999, so there is a fit for small projects and for large ones.
We left out hosting platforms and companies without a US office. If you are open to a team outside the USA, our WordPress page explains how we work from India.
Digital Silk
Digital Silk describes itself as a web design agency for B2B, B2C and enterprise brands. Its website lists custom web design and development on WordPress, Shopify, WooCommerce and custom platforms, plus branding, SEO, pay-per-click and email marketing, with offices in Miami, New York, Chicago and San Diego. Clutch gives its founding year as 2015.
WordPress is one of several platforms it builds on, so ask for WordPress examples and for who maintains the site after launch.
Freshy
Freshy describes itself as a US-based WordPress agency, founded in 2011. Its website lists design, development, e-commerce and WooCommerce work, maintenance and support, SEO, accessibility work, security, migration, speed work, managed WordPress hosting and white-label work. It reports more than 2,400 clients, more than 50 in-house WordPress experts and more than 370 five-star Google reviews. Those figures are its own.
It sells ongoing maintenance as a plan. Ask how work is scheduled, and whether custom engineering is part of the offer or only templated builds.
Fueled and 10up
10up's website says its WordPress expertise is now part of Fueled. Automattic's page for 10up shows a Premier partner tier for WordPress VIP and lists the United States, Canada and Europe as regions. The services it lists include digital strategy, UI and UX design, SEO and analytics, content strategy and engineering. Clutch gives Fueled a 2007 founding year and lists 10up as a practice inside it.
Fueled and 10up have separate Clutch profiles, with 38 reviews and 1 review, so the public evidence is split. Ask which company signs the contract and who staffs the work.
Huemor
Huemor describes itself as a B2B digital agency. Its website lists website redesign, support and search work on WordPress, HubSpot and Webflow, for construction, engineering, manufacturing and software companies, from a Pittsburgh headquarters. Clutch gives its founding year as 2011.
It works across several platforms, so ask how much of the work is on WordPress. Its team band is 10 to 49 people, which limits how many builds run at once.
Lounge Lizard
Lounge Lizard was founded in 1998. Its website lists web design, custom development on WordPress, Shopify and Magento, e-commerce, branding and digital marketing, and nine locations, with New York City as its headquarters.
It is a broad agency, so ask for custom plugin and theme examples if you need engineering and not only design.
Multidots
Multidots calls itself an enterprise WordPress and Sanity agency, with offices in Austin, Texas and London. Automattic's page shows a Premier partner tier, and lists migrations from Sitecore, Drupal and Adobe Experience Manager among its specialties. Its website claims more than 500 websites and 1,000 migrations. Those figures are its own. Clutch gives a 2009 founding year.
Automattic's page lists India among its regions, next to the United States, Europe and Canada. If your procurement policy needs a team in one country, ask where each role sits.
OuterBox
OuterBox was founded in 2004 and is based in Copley, Ohio, according to Clutch. Its Clutch profile puts SEO at about 45% of its services, pay-per-click at 25%, conversion optimization at 15% and web design at 10%. It lists e-commerce and manufacturing as 35% of its industries each, and states WordPress as its content management focus.
Its listed services are mostly marketing. If you want a WordPress build, ask who builds it and see examples of WordPress and WooCommerce stores.
Reaktiv
Automattic's page for Reaktiv shows a Premier partner tier for WordPress VIP, with the United States as its location. The services it lists include custom WordPress development, API integrations, platform migration and code review, and its capabilities include multisite networks, custom publishing tools and accessibility consulting. Clutch lists Temecula, California, and a 2011 founding year.
Its team band is 10 to 49 people, so ask about lead times and who covers absence.
WebDevStudios
WebDevStudios calls itself a full-service WordPress agency. Its website lists strategy, custom design and development, headless WordPress, migrations, performance and security work and ongoing support, for enterprise, media, e-commerce, education and non-profit clients, and it cites more than 18 years of WordPress experience. It publishes WordPress books and sells plugins. Clutch lists Philadelphia and a 2008 founding year.
It has one Clutch review, so ask for references you can call.
WebFX
WebFX says it has more than 30 years in business and more than 750 marketers, data architects and strategists, with offices in Harrisburg, Tampa, Houston, San Francisco and Ann Arbor. Its website has pages for WordPress development and for WordPress web design. Clutch lists 454 reviews, the most of the ten, and a 1995 founding year.
At that size, a team is assigned to you. Ask who will do the work and how much senior time the account gets.
How to choose between these ten
Four questions separate them.
- Enterprise platform access. Automattic lists 10up, Multidots and Reaktiv as Premier WordPress VIP partners. VIP suits high-traffic publishers and enterprises, and most smaller sites run on ordinary hosting.
- Engineering depth. Ask for public plugins, code on a repository you can read, and how code is reviewed. A company that builds from commercial plugins only will leave you with more to maintain.
- E-commerce experience. OuterBox's profile lists e-commerce as 35% of its industries. Freshy, Digital Silk and Lounge Lizard list WooCommerce or e-commerce work on their sites. Ask for stores on your own platform.
- Ongoing maintenance. Freshy sells maintenance and managed hosting as plans. WebDevStudios and Lounge Lizard list support or maintenance. Decide who patches the site, since that decides your risk.
Two checks before you shortlist. On Clutch, read the review dates and sub-scores before the headline count. Then search each name with the words “acquired” or “merger”, since 10up now appears under the Fueled name.
A note about us
PromotEdge International builds and maintains WordPress sites, so we are not part of the list above and hold no place in it. We are the PromotEdge group's team for companies outside India, and our delivery team is in India.
If you would like to compare us with the companies above, our WordPress development page says what we build, how we work and who does the work.
About this list
All figures were read from Clutch profiles, Automattic's WordPress VIP partner pages and the companies' own websites on 1 November 2026. No company paid for a place on this list. Where a figure comes from the company, we say so.
Ratings, review counts and team sizes change, and each carries its date, so you can check whether it still holds before you shortlist anyone.
Questions buyers ask us
What does a WordPress development company do?
It builds, customizes and maintains WordPress sites with custom themes and plugins and, for large sites, headless or WordPress VIP set-ups. It differs from a web design agency by carrying responsibility for the code as well as the look of the site.
How long does a WordPress build take?
It depends on the number of page types, the integrations and how quickly you supply content. A standard business site can take weeks. An online store or a platform migration takes longer, because product data, redirects and payment tests all need time. Ask each company for a dated plan, and read what it needs from you.
What is WordPress VIP, and do I need it?
WordPress VIP is Automattic's enterprise hosting and development platform, and its partners are listed on the VIP site. It is built for high-traffic publishers and large organizations. Most smaller sites run well on ordinary WordPress hosting, so ask any company that recommends VIP to explain why your site needs it.
Should I hire a local WordPress company or a remote one?
Location matters mainly for time-zone overlap and for whether you want in-person workshops. Several companies on this list have offices in more than one US city. Our delivery team is in India, and we set calls in your working hours. If you need a team in your own country, this list is a fair place to start.
How many plugins should a WordPress site have?
Fewer is safer. Every plugin is code that someone has to update and trust, so keep the ones you need, remove the rest, and ask who is responsible for updating them. A company that builds custom code for core features can often replace several plugins.
What is the difference between a WordPress developer and a WordPress development company?
A developer is one person writing code. A company assigns a team for design, development, testing and project management, and takes contractual responsibility for delivery. The difference shows when someone leaves in the middle of a project.
